As
they say... when life hands you lemons...make lemonade! So our design was to
make the stairway the inviting focal point of this project. Here we have already
removed a wall and started to clean up the stairway. While working on this I
could not get that tune out of my head. Perhaps a little presumptuous,
but we will let you decide. This picture was taken from the location that would
become the great room, fireplace area. The opposite side of the stairway would
be the Bar/Kitchenette area and to the left, the Home Theater.
Same view but finished. We curved the
steps and made a unique last few steps by splaying the banisters off the columns,
which, you can see, were straightened and finished in faux paint.
A
view from the front shows the inviting effect of the curved bottom steps.
No, the steps are not open, the risers are clad in smoked mirror. The last
few were done in beveled smoked mirror tiles. What you see is the reflection
of that wonderful view. Of course each step hides rope lighting that, at
night give the steps a magnificent presence. The stairway features double
cherry handrails, wrought-iron and, at the bottom, nice cherry double
balusters trimmed in black. Lets start the official tour from the
top of these steps.
